GIBRALTAR, UN DÍA PARA NO OLVIDAR. 2 DE MARZO DE 2012


Los alumnos de 1º de Bachillerato disfrutaron de un estupendo día en Gibraltar. Aunque breve, la estancia en este trocito de Gran Bretaña ha supuesto una experiencia enriquecedora para todos ellos además de divertida.
Ya desde el primer momento de la mañana nos encontramos con multitud de situaciones en las que el inglés escrito (carteles, señales de tráfico…)y el inglés oral convive con el español de una forma espontánea y cotidiana.
La subida en teleférico a la Roca, la bajada caminado y disfrutando de un paisaje y vistas formidables, así como los encuentros simpáticos con los monos  “The Apes” creó inolvidables momentos tanto para los alumnos como para las profesoras acompañantes. Por la tarde los alumnos dedicaron parte de su tiempo a practicar su inglés, haciendo entrevistas  en la calle, en las tiendas, en los bares… acerca de la vida en Gibraltar y de algunos aspectos culturales interesantes.


 Me gustaría añadir que ha sido un viaje  gratificante al ver a mis alumnos emocionados cuando  entendían el inglés,  cuando se esforzaban por hacerse entender y cuando disfrutaban de todos los momentos que han tenido ocasión de vivir.
Finalmente quiero dar las gracias a mis compañeras Prado y Sara, por su apoyo y compañía y también a Mary-Ryan, nuestra lectora. Y no quiero olvidar a Óscar y Antonia,  a quienes he echado de menos, con los que he realizado otros viajes anteriores a Gibraltar, también estupendos, que espero podamos repetir en cursos futuros.

I have English nationality.

Yes, there is Spanish nationality or Irish nationality.
·        Do you usually speak English, Spanish or both?
I usually speak English but I sometimes speak in Spanish with travellers.
·        What´s your favourite place here?
My favourite place in Gibraltar is the shopping street.
·        What´s the most beautiful place in Gibraltar?
The most beautiful place in Gibraltar is the rock, where are monkeys and caves.

·        Is living in Gibraltar very expensive?
Yes.
·        How much is a pound in Euros?
One pound is 1’2 Euros.
·        Do many tourists visit Gibraltar every day?
Yes, Gibraltar is a touristic place.
·        Have you visited any Spanish towns?
Yes, for example I have visited Cádiz, Málaga or Valencia.

-         My name´s Thomas.

-         I´m 34 years old.

-         No, I live in Algeciras.
·         What nationality are you?
-         English.
·         Can you tell me other nationalities of people who live in Gibraltar?
-         Spanish, German or Portuguese people also live here.
·         Do you usually speak English, Spanish or both?
-         I speak both languages but I don´t speak Spanish very well.
·         What´s your favourite place here?
-         The airport. I love planes.
·         What´s the most beautiful place in Gibraltar?
-         The Rock.
·         Is living in Gibraltar very expensive?
-         No. Some things are cheaper here.
·         How much is a pound in euros?
-         One pound is one point fourteen euros. (1£=1´14€)
·         Do many tourists visit Gibraltar every year?
-         Yes, Gibraltar is very attractive for tourists.
·         Is there a typical Gibraltar dish?
-         ´´Calentita`` is a typical dish of Gibraltar.
·         Are there any good restaurants here? – Can you tell me their names?
-         Yes. For example,´´Café Rojo`` is a good restaurant.
·         Are there any good hotels here? – What´s the name of the best hotel here?
-         Of course. I think the best hotel is the O´Callaghan Elliot.
·         What do young people usually do in Gibraltar? – Where do they go at weekends?
-         Young people visit the Main Street a lot. Especially at weekends. But Alameda Gardens is another good place for young people.
·         Which TV programmes do young people like?
-         Sorry, I don´t know.
·         Can you tell me the names of some Primary schools here? – And Secondary schools?
-         Governoor´s School is a Primary school. And Bayside School is for Secondary.
·         Do students learn Spanish at school or only English?
-         The students learn both languages here.
·         Which universities do students go to?
-         All Gibraltarians students go to UK universities.
·         Have you visited any Spanish towns? – Which ones?
-         Yes, I have visited Madrid and Cádiz.
·         Have you visited any British towns? – Which ones?
-         In England, I have visited London and Liverpool.
·         Do you think the relationships with Spanish people are good?
-         Yes, they are good.-OK. Bye bye and thank you very much for your help.

I prefer not say my age, but is above forty.
·Do you live here, in Gibraltar?
Yes, my family settled here 50 years.
·What nationality are you?
I’m English.
·Can you tell me other nationalities of people who live in Gibraltar?
Here live many Spanish, Moroccan, including some Indians.
·Do you usually speak English, Spanish or both?
I speak very little Spanish, so I usually speak English.
·What’s your favourite place?
It’s the highest point of The Rock, the view from there is breathtaking.
·Is living in Gibraltar very expensive?
More than in Spain, but the salaries are higher.
·How much is a pound in euros?
I don’t know exactly, but is about 1,20€.
